The message of Christ was simple and uncomplicated until some later day philosopher turned Apostle theologised on it.
As a matter of fact Christ preached only one thing – LOVE. The tragedy of man is that he is of such a make up that has consigned him to always want to do simple things in a complicated manner. He prefers to tie himself in chains when he should be free – to make things difficult for himself.
Moses bequethed a Tablet containing ten laws but Christ came and simplified those laws by reducing them to two for easier understanding and application and they both center on LOVE.
When He was asked to say which of the Ten Commandments He considered the greatest, His reply was short, clear and unequivocal – LOVE.
They had expected Him to start quoting from the Law of Moses but He shocked them with the simplicity of His answer when he said:
“LOVE the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the FIRST and GREATEST commandment. And the SECOND is like it: ‘LOVE your neighbor as yourself.’ ” And He went on to say, “These two commandments sum up and upon them depend all the Law and the Prophets ”
How nice and pleasant and what a better place the world will be, if all the pages of weekly sermons in churches the world over, the airtime on radio and TV, the cyber ink on social media deployed in preaching the gospel, are all dedicated to the one single message of Christ – LOVE.
LOVE your God, LOVE your self and LOVE your neighbour as Christ LOVE you
